Director Ken Smith to Resign School Board Position

School Board Director Ken Smith
Northshore School Board Director Ken Smith announced Monday, March 27, his intent to resign his board position in order to run for state Senate in the 45th District.

Smith said he made the announcement because he must file within the next two weeks in order for his name to appear on the ballot as a candidate for the seat previously held by state Sen. Andy Hill, R-Redmond, who passed away Oct. 31, 2016.

“Given the preparations the board will have to make to find my replacement, I felt it best to announce this now to give you as much time as possible.” Smith wrote to his fellow School Board directors. “I wish you all the best and have full confidence you will continue the excellence we have all come to expect from Northshore.”

The Northshore School Board will review Director Smith’s decision at an upcoming meeting and determine next steps based on board policies.

“I thank Director Smith for his contributions to the Northshore School District and his unwavering support for our students, staff and families in this great community,” said Superintendent Michelle Reid. “I will continue to wish him the best in his upcoming journey.”
