12/16/2020 Iowa Assessment will begin in January 2021 for Single-Subject Qualified 5th, 6th, & 7th Graders

Hello parents of 5th, 6th, and 7th grade single-subject HiCap qualified students,

We are preparing to begin our remote IOWA Assessment for students who have a highly capable designation in a single subject. The IOWA test in the second subject will be administered remotely through your internet browser and proctored through ZOOM. We have set aside several timeslots on Wednesdays in January 2021 for this testing.

Please visit our IOWA time slot selection form to select a timeslot that will work for your student. After you have chosen a time slot we will follow up with a ZOOM meeting link in a separate email.

If your student does not wish to take the IOWA assessment in the second subject, please visit our Opt out form to opt out of Highly Capable testing for this year.

11/30/2020 Screening and assessment will begin with 6th and 7th grade Referred and New-to-Northshore students

Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, the full Highly Capable screening and assessment schedule is to be determined.

We plan to begin the screening and assessment process by administering the NNAT3 to 6th and 7th grade students who were referred for testing or are new to Northshore. Our department will contact families  with next steps when they are determined. Questions can be directed to hicap@nsd.org.

The HICAP testing schedule for grades K-5 is still to be determined at the moment, and will be finalized after screening has concluded for 6th and 7th grade students. Our department will update K-5 families when we are able to screen and assess.

All guardians wishing to Appeal their student's eligibility results or request a Portfolio Review for their student must submit these forms before February 14, 2020 at 4:00 pm. See the form for more details.

1/10/2020 IOWA Assessment Update

Most Schools have completed the IOWA assessment testing and makeup testing for students who met the screening threshold score. In order to test as many eligible students as possible, the HiCap department scheduled many makeup days for students who missed the testing days at their school. If a student missed the testing and makeup days for their school but would still like to be considered for highly capable placement, a portfolio review can be performed for that student. Parents will need to fill out the portfolio review form and submit the required documents to the HiCap department before the date listed on the assessment results letter that will be sent home by either backpack mail or through US Postal Service at the end of January 2020. Please see the Portfolio Review page for further details.
