The Accelerated Models and Programs Department is working on the 2020-2021 testing plan for students with highly capable needs.
Students in grades 6 & 7 with No Current HiCap Designation
We plan to begin by remotely administering the NNAT3 to students who were referred for testing or are new to Northshore in grades 6 and 7. Our department will contact families of these students when we are ready to begin screening their student(s). Questions may be directed to email@example.com. See below for details.

Our department will contact families of these students when we are ready to begin assessment of their student(s). Questions may be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org. See below for details
Students in grades K-5
We are still working on the highly capable screening and assessment schedule for grades K-5. Our department will update families when we can test.
Please continue to check this page for the most up-to-date information on the Screening and Assessment process for the 2020-2021 School year.
We are preparing to begin our highly capable screening for 6th and 7th grade students who are new to the Northshore School District (we may not have screened your student or students last year because you enrolled in the district after our cut off date which was in November, 2019) as well as students who were referred for highly capable testing this school year.
The first part of highly capable testing is to screen students using the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT3). In order to take this screener, students need to have a district issued device so we can push out the latest update.
Step 1: If you do not have a district issued device, you will need to request one and pick it up from your school. To request a district device, please fill out this form. https://form.jotform.com/202085825509053. Please check the box on this form stating you will be using this device for Highly Capable Screening and Assessment.
Step 2: Once you have completed the form, your school will contact you to let you know when you may pick up your district device from your middle school. Most schools have one day a week they are able to provide a time for device pick up, thus, the sooner you are able to complete the jotform, the sooner we can let you know your options for pick up times at your school. If you are unable to pick up a device from your school at any of the listed dates and times, please email email@example.com for alternative pickup/delivery options.
When screening and assessment concludes, you may opt to keep your device or you may return it to your school during a materials distribution day.
When you pick up your device, you may receive instructions attached to your device about how to login to take the NNAT3 screener. Directions on how to login to the NNAT3 on a Chromebook are in PDF here. Directions on how to login to the NNAT3 on a Mac are in PDF here.
We have created a quick NNAT3 tutorial video explaining how to log in. You can find that video at the bottom of this page.
Step 3: Please complete the Academic Honesty Pledge attestation form found below.
Step 4: Read the directions and watch the video instruction on how to login to the test then choose a time where you can take the 30 minute test uninterrupted. You should complete this screening test before January 8th at 8:00 pm.
A few reminders before you test:
- Please remember to complete your attestation form found below or at https://app.smartsheet.com/b/form/8a4a67d39f65473aafee1417146e7a87
- Students have until January 15th at 8:00 p.m. to take your NNAT3.
- The NNAT3 takes 30 minutes to complete and is internally timed.
- The test does not allow you to stop and come back to the test. Please find a time when you can dedicate 30 uninterrupted minutes to the test.
- During business hours (excluding winter break) our technology department will be able to assist you with device issues (425) 408-7669. If you have a testing issue, please contact the highly capable department at firstname.lastname@example.org . However, we may not be immediately available. We will work to reconcile all reasonable requests as soon as we can get to the email.
- If you have a 504 or IEP with testing accommodations allowing for more time, your accommodations have been built into the test for you.
- Please remember that your username is your unique student ID number and your password is 75497016 (This password will only work for students described above who have been added to the testing roster.).
We are preparing to begin our remote IOWA Assessment for 5th, 6th, and 7th grade students who have a highly capable designation in a single subject. The IOWA test in the second subject will be administered remotely through your internet browser and proctored through ZOOM. We have set aside several timeslots on Wednesdays in January 2021 for this testing.
Please visit our IOWA time slot selection form to select a timeslot that will work for your student. After you have chosen a time slot we will follow up with a ZOOM meeting link in a separate email.
If your student does not wish to take the IOWA assessment in the second subject, please visit our Opt out form to opt out of Highly Capable testing for this year.

Northshore School District uses the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT3) as one of its screening tools. Screeners are used to identify students with the potential for Highly Capable Program eligibility. Screening results will be communicated to schools and families in the late winter or early spring. For more information on the NNAT3 testing instrument visit our NNAT3 information page.
