Characteristics of HiCap Students

  • Large vocabulary
  • Intellectual curiosity
  • Grasps new concepts quickly with minimal practice


  • Keen sense of humor
  • Independence in attitude and social behavior
  • Creativeness and inventiveness


  • Unusual emotional depth and/or intensity
  • Sensitivity
  • High expectations for self and others
  • Easily wounded, need for emotional support
  • Idealism and sense of justice


  • Intensely focused on passions (resists changing activities when engrossed in own interests)
  • Constantly questions
  • High levels of frustration related to performance expectations (imposed by self or others)
