Dear Parent or Guardian,

Your multilingual student continues to be eligible for English Language Development (ELD) services for the 2024-2025 school year.

We have a "Parent Waiver of ELD Services" form for your student on file, so they are not receiving services at this time.  The Parent Waiver form you completed is still in effect and will remain in effect, unless you withdraw the refusal of ELD services and request that your student be placed back into services.

In compliance with federal requirements, your student will continue to be tested on the state’s annual language proficiency assessment (WIDA ACCESS) until they meet exit requirements established by the State of Washington.

Purpose and Delivery of English Language Development Services

The purpose of ELD services is to provide language instruction for students in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in English. These services also help students meet grade level academic standards and requirements for promotion and graduation.

To learn about your student’s most recent Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) scores, i-Ready scores, WIDA ACCESS scores, and/or Report Card grades, please login into ParentVue via https://www.nsd.org/resources/online-tools/parentvue and/or talk to your student’s teacher.

If a student has a disability, staff providing ELD services coordinate with appropriate building staff to meet the objectives of that student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Plan.

Most students successfully exit services within 4 years. After exiting services, the student’s performance will continue to be monitored to provide additional academic support if needed.  For students who participate in these services in our district, the expected 4-year graduation rate is 86.3% and the extended graduation rate is 89.2%.

We encourage you to be an active participant in your student’s education.  You have the right to request regular meetings to discuss your student’s language development and academic progress.  If you wish to get more information about ELD services or you wish to withdraw your Parent Waiver for ELD services, please contact your school.

Sincerely,

Ebony Harvey
