Support Families Struggling with Meal Debt

Donate Here*You must select “Northshore SD Administration” to make a donation to student meal debt.

DId you know? In Northshore, no student is denied a meal. You can help support families who may be struggling to pay for meals.

In the Northshore School District, we firmly believe that no student should ever be denied access to a nutritious meal. This commitment is not just a district policy but a legal requirement under Washington State's Hunger-Free Students' Bill of Rights Act (HB2610). By ensuring every student has access to a reimbursable meal, we support their ability to learn and thrive in a stigma-free environment.

However, there are still many unmet needs within our community. The cost of living in the Northshore area is significantly high, and the national threshold for free and reduced-price meals does not always reflect the local economic realities. For instance, to qualify for meal assistance,

a family of four must earn less than $57,720 annually. Many families in our district exceed this limit but still struggle to make ends meet due to the high cost of housing, healthcare, and other essentials.

How Your Donation Helps

Your generous donations can make a real difference in the lives of our students and their families. By contributing to cover unpaid meal debts, you help:

  • Alleviate Stress: Families experiencing food insecurity often face significant stress and anxiety. Your support can relieve some of this burden, allowing parents to focus on other essential needs.

  • Ensure Nutritional Security: By ensuring that all students have access to nutritious meals, we support their physical health and academic performance.

  • Promote Equity and Dignity: Donations help uphold our commitment to treat all students with dignity, avoiding any stigma associated with meal debt and ensuring every child feels valued and supported.

We invite you to join us in making a meaningful impact. Your tax-deductible donation, no matter the size, helps bridge the gap for those who do not qualify for free or reduced-price meals but are still in need. Donations are applied by the FNS office to the students most in need across the district.
