Ethnic Studies
Northshore students lead a workshop at the 2023 Student Justice Conference

What is Ethnic Studies?

Ethnic Studies focuses on social justice through the examination of identity, power, resistance, liberation, and healing. By using the Framework, students and educators center the voices, experiences, and accomplishments of minoritized communities as they look at social issues and systems over time. Students build a sense of belonging through learning that affirms their identities and honors that of the people around them. Ethnic Studies helps students transform their lives by promoting healing and giving them the tools to fight against systems of oppression; supporting student civic action through engagement in community partnerships; and providing students with ways to use their voice to positively influence change in their schools, communities, and the world around them.
