A Conversation with Professor Annette Gordon-Reed: On Juneteenth

On May 3, Professor Annette Gordon-Reed will discuss her newly published book On Juneteenth. Weaving together American history, dramatic family chronicle, and searing episodes of memoir, Gordon-Reed’s On Juneteenth provides a historian’s view of the country’s long road to Juneteenth, recounting both its origins in Texas and the enormous hardships African Americans have endured in the century since, from Reconstruction through Jim Crow and beyond. We invite teachers, students, and history lovers to join us for this event.
