Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral To services (SBIRT)

The Northshore School District (NSD) has a long-standing commitment to student health and wellness. NSD is dedicated to equity, safety, building on the students’ strengths, providing support, and addressing the needs of the whole child. We will be screening middle school students this year using an opt-out model.

The School Based-Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral To [services] (SB-SBIRT) model, facilitated through the Check Yourself tool, is entirely voluntary for your student. They have the option to decline or end the screener at any time, ensuring their comfort and autonomy in this process.

Check Yourself is a screening platform for students to share about their experience(s). The self-administered screener examines students’ strengths and goals, substance use, mental health, and personal safety. Its interactive nature aims to remove the barriers associated with addressing challenges while normalizing dialogue regarding health. Students will be educated on the purpose of SB-SBIRT and understand that a counselor may meet with them to review their answers and provide personalized support(s).

If you would not like for your student to participate in SBIRT, you may fill out the opt-out form or connect with the District SB-SBIRT Specialist.
