Happy February, everyone! As we welcomed the second month in 2020, it is important to reflect on the equity and diversity related accomplishments in our district. This recognition propels, motivates, and pushes us to continue this work. February is Black History Month, and we are promoting the month by sharing resources and encouraging celebrations with staff and students.

The purpose of this event is to participate in the National Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action; celebrate Northshore’s Black students, families, educators, and community; continue dialogue about equitable changes that have happened and should continue to happen throughout the District; show allyship; and embrace intersectionality.
North Creek High School’s Black Student Union (BSU) Board has done some excellent work in setting goals, thinking about what it means to be student leaders, and building community in their club since it started last spring.
Last month was Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month and the students in Ashley Lovern’s sixth grade class at Timbercrest Middle School had the opportunity to celebrate with a read-in.
This is the Northshore School District Equity and Diversity Department’s inaugural newsletter. This newsletter is intended to highlight equity-driven initiatives, events, and activities across the District and in our greater community; provide information about upcoming holidays and observances; and share equity-related resources.
