This spring, the expansion project at Sorenson Early Childhood Center and Westhill Elementary has made steady progress. The new one-story addition will reduce the number of portables and build additional permanent classrooms at Sorenson ECC. The project also includes improvements to existing building conditions with interior remodels and other minor upgrades at Sorenson, installation of a fully accessible and inclusive playground at both campuses, and improvements to site circulation and additional parking, which benefits both campuses.
The new addition at Sorenson has been fully framed and the roof structure is complete. The exterior weather proofing and roof material will be completed next. Also in progress is the interior electrical and plumbing work. Improvements to the existing Sorenson structure will take place during summer 2025 and will include renovations to create more therapy and office spaces. This work at Sorenson is scheduled to be complete in fall 2025.
At Westhill, the covered play area and inclusive playground structure are being built, with the anticipated completion date being summer 2025.
The improvements to site circulation and parking will begin this spring and continue into the summer. This work is also expected to be completed in time for the 2025-26 school year.
This project is funded by the 2022 Capital Bond, which was generously supported by Northshore voters.
