Workgroup Meeting Notes: December 4, 2019

  • Natalie, shop steward and bus driver from Transportation filled in for Scott
  • Joe reviewed which software products are currently in use:
    • Zonar - provide GPS location of the buses and tracks the routes
      • Zonar system uses 3G and is slow.  It results in a delay with regard to where the bus actually is.
    • VersaTrans - provides routing and student route assignments
      • Enables us to draw from Synergy to identify where students are coming from
      • Zonar and VersaTrans do not interact
      • Inquiries about where students stops are located requires looking up that student in the VersaTrans system
      • Families and parents interact with VersTrans through "E-Link"
        • They use a guest log-in since it is generic to all users
        • If we move to the proposed projects, each parent would have a log-in to identify them in the system
    • The group will explore a "Universal log-in" of district systems for parents
    • Reviewing additional software to provide additional functionality
      • These two projects could be presented to the board for their January meeting
  • Two software programs proposed to be used
    • “My Stop” bus tracker system discussion using the "On-Screen" product
      • Would create a connection to the Zonar system and enable the use of the "My Stop" app (for mobile phones)
      • Can also push out messages (such a delay, a school status, or enable snow routes)
    • “Tyler Drive” on-board student transportation system discussion
      • Watched the video of system functionality from the Tyler website
      • System would enable the use of an RFID card
      • Could this RFID code be multipurpose?  (such as lunches or ASB)
  •  Summary of the proposal:
    • On Screen - can start early next year
    • My Stop - can start once On-Screen is up and working
    • Tyler Drive - likely by start of school for 2020
  • The technical workgroup supported moving forward with the proposal
