Update on Modular Building Installation at Bothell High School

Update on Modular Building Installation at Bothell High School

To accommodate school and program needs, and to replace aging portables in the District, planning and offsite construction is currently underway for the Bothell High School campus to receive a 6-classroom modular building, tentatively scheduled to be installed during the summer for use during the 2024-25 school year. This project is currently in the permitting process with the City of Bothell while site preparation takes place, and the modular building is being constructed in sections by Pacific Mobile Structure, Inc., to be relocated and fully installed on campus when ready.

At Bothell High, these new learning spaces will house 3 general classrooms as well as 3 classrooms for the Adults Transitioning to Independence (ATI) program offered by the District. In October 2023, the portables onsite that previously housed ATI were demolished in preparation for the modular building installations, and ATI has been temporarily relocated to Innovation Lab High School’s campus for the 2023-24 school year. In addition, the structure will include a conference room and staff offices to support BHS, ATI, and other district programs.

These SAGE (Smart Academic Green Environment) modular classrooms combine the latest thinking in healthy learning environments with the best in green building practices. Using environmentally safe building materials, the structures have improved HVAC that incorporate energy recovery ventilation for air quality, noise reduction, and more.

Currently, the building is framed, with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing being installed. Walls, doors, casework, and other fixtures are also being installed, and the painting and many finishing pieces will be completed offsite by Pacific Mobile. Walk-through video tours provided by Pacific Mobile will give viewers a chance to visualize how the building will come together, including the classrooms, hallway, gender-neutral restrooms, and staff offices. This modular building is being constructed in sections, which will be transported by trucks for installation at Bothell High, planned for summer 2024. Prior to the installation, contractors will pour the foundation and complete additional site work. Final utility hookups will take place before occupancy is granted by the city.

This project was funded by the voter-approved 2022 Capital Bond. A similar project is taking place at North Creek High School during the 2023-24 school year, with funding contributed by impact fees from new construction and development in the area.
