Washington State Composting Requirements Update
Composting practices are governed by Washington State law, which requires the diversion of organic waste from landfills to support environmental sustainability and waste reduction efforts. In alignment with these regulations, Northshore School District is implementing a district-wide composting program.
Effective for the 2026–2027 school year, the district will provide compost dumpsters at all school sites. This initiative is intended to ensure compliance with state requirements and to standardize composting practices across all locations.
Warehouse/Utilities will oversee the placement and coordination of compost dumpsters. Additional information regarding service schedules, collection procedures, and site-specific expectations will be communicated as implementation details are finalized.
Further guidance and detailed scheduling information will be distributed in upcoming communications.
