NONINSTRUCTIONAL OPERATIONS Records Management

Each department shall assign a records officer who shall have the responsibility for safekeeping of all department records according to the retention schedule published by the Washington Secretary of State, State Archives. The two retention schedules applicable to school districts are (1) the Local Government Common Records Retention Schedule (CORE) and (2) the School Districts and Educational Service Districts Records Retention Schedule. These schedules are periodically updated by the state. It is up to each department to ensure that the most current schedule is used. Each department records officer shall have authority to dispose of materials after the recommended or required retention period.

Records should be kept in office files only as long as is necessary to satisfy (1) retention requirements (2) audit, when required, and (3) other operational requirements.

Please come to Support Services and process your incoming archives and pull all expired material and place in the designated Shred location Pallets.
