Letter to Students: Live Information Session for Seniors and Book Reviews

I hope you have been having a productive project-focused learning week.  As the first weekend of spring, it was very nice to have the sun be out and the weather to be so nice and warm.

I have been so impressed with the wide variety of projects you have created and that you have shared with me.  We will be continuing these for the start of our new week. I will be providing an update later this week on new education ideas for all of us moving forward ;>)

Last week, I reported that I was looking forward to hearing from students about the books they are currently reading or those they might be rereading (as I often do).  We have planned a website opportunity to share all of our book reviews.  Use this form to share your book reviews. In addition to providing a place to write a short summary and your reasons for liking the book, you and other students can rate the book (1 – 5 stars) and upload an optional picture about the book or photograph.  This can be a picture you have drawn of a scene in the book, a photograph of you reading the book, or a project you have created – perhaps an art display – that best represents that book.  For those students who want to share a brief (1-minute or less) video book recommendation, you can work with your parents to do a short video on a cell phone or the computer. We will provide you with information on how to share your video recommendations later this week. As book reviews come in, they will be reviewed by staff members before being posted to a master list where students, staff, and community members can see the reviews and perhaps find their next great adventure.

If you are a high school senior at any one of our high schools, please note that I will be holding a live video information session for the Class of 2020 this Wednesday, March 25 at 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. to answer any questions you have about graduation or any of the topics related to your senior year with us. In an effort to best prepare for this video talk, we have created a survey feedback form for you to provide your questions.  Staff will then collate these questions and I will try to have as many answers as possible prior to the time we gather on Wednesday. I look forward to connecting then. In the meantime, please know we will be doing everything we can to support you in this spring of your senior year with us.

Finally, please know how much I appreciate you following directions about staying home and washing your hands a lot at this time in our school year.  It keeps you and others healthy and safe for us to stay at home right now.  I am also finding so many interesting household chores to do while I am at home ;>)  In many ways, this is our new way of life so making the best of it is definitely a good idea. As Jon Bon Jovi said this week, “if you can’t do what you do, do what you can.” It may be that simple...

I look forward to seeing you soon,

Michelle Reid, Ed.D.
