In last Friday's COVID-19 update, I shared that I needed to take time over the weekend to review the changing information from our state and counties, as well as consider the positive tests/exposures among our district staff. At times, the multiple data points have been a little difficult to interpret as they are updated. While we continue to monitor the situation, we are preparing to move forward.
Tonight, I am announcing that we have planned and are scheduling the move to a modified Stage 3 Hybrid Learning Model beginning on Monday, October 26. This means we plan to begin phasing in some of the groups listed in Stage 3 - starting with students in Headstart, the Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program, and the Adult Transition Program - Pathways. Staff will be in contact with those families to confirm their interest in sending their student to in-person instruction.
It is important to note that the current data show a steep increase in numbers for both the state as well as King and Snohomish counties. That means cases per 100,000 over the last two weeks are on the rise. We will continue to monitor the data and our own information here in Northshore. If this trend continues, we will have to revisit the modified Stage 3 entry planned for October 26. We will continue to move cautiously through each stage of hybrid and full in-person learning, gradually bringing back groups within each stage before moving to the next.
I want to remind you that COVID-19 remains a very serious health issue in our state and across our country. We will always prioritize the health and safety of our students, staff and community. I will continue to encourage you to stay safe, practice safety protocols, including but not limited to practicing physical distancing, wearing a mask, and staying home if you have COVID-like symptoms. We can do this together!
I look forward to checking in again on Friday.
