Functional Skills and Academics (FSA)

When the decision is made for specific groups of students listed in Stage 3 to return to in-person 
services it will be communicated to parents by the district. As stated before, many factors are considered in making these decisions. Planning has been underway for a staggered start for the Stage 3 groups and this was recently communicated as a modified Stage 3. However, due to the recent increase in COVID cases and preparation time, the district has paused the in person start date for our first groups. We will continue to monitor the data carefully to determine when a new start date can be announced.

Once student groups return to in person services families can choose not to send their student and continue with remote instruction.  Students will be provided instruction both synchronously and asynchronously as currently being offered.

Health screenings will be conducted for all staff and students before or upon their arrival to school. All staff will be required to wear cloth masks unless they are unable to wear a mask due to medical condition or disability or due to communication reliant on facial markers or expression. Daily cleaning will occur on a scheduled basis with a deep cleaning on Wednesdays between different groups of students. Ventilation will be set to maximize outside air flow and run continuously throughout the day. Students who are 3 and 4 years of age may wear masks, but will be encouraged and taught to wear masks while at school.  Students who are 5 and older must wear masks. There are some situations where a student’s disability may make it difficult to wear a mask and are therefore exempt.  These exemptions include:

• Those with a disability that prevents them from comfortably wearing or removing a face covering;
• Those with certain respiratory conditions or trouble breathing;
• Those who are deaf or hard of hearing, and those who provide instruction to such people, and use facial and mouth movements as part of communication; and
• Those advised by a medical, legal, or behavioral health professional that wearing a face covering may pose a risk to that person.

Students will be provided instruction in the proper use of wearing a mask.

School staff are working and planning schedules for students for in-person services.  Schedules 
will be communicated with parents regarding specific groups of students when the decision is 
made for their return to the classroom. Communication will come directly to the parents from the school the student will attend and staff providing the services.  Scheduling considerations include staffing, safety parameters, start and end times, classroom layout, and the individual needs of the students being served both in person and remotely,  For parents requesting transportation services, information will also be provided.

Related services such as speech therapy, occupation and physical therapy, etc. will continue to 
be provided remotely at this time.

The determination of classroom capacity will be configured using social and functional 
distancing guidelines. School teams, including staff and building administrators, will assess 
each classroom space while also considering the individual needs of students who will be in attendance. Student capacity for Headstart and ECEAP will be 10 students.  ATP Pathways capacity is 8 based on the number of students accessing onsite services.

The district will provide disposable masks for students who have need; they will be available at 
school and on the bus.

Free lunch and breakfast will be available when students return to campus. Students can choose to access school meals or can bring their own. Free meals will be available to all students through the 2020-2021 school year.

Depending on the school building, meals may be available via the current meal delivery system or onsite. Meals delivered through the meal delivery system will continue to require pre-order, while meals onsite will be based on meal counts done each morning in the classroom. Daily meal options will mirror those available through the daily meal ordering system. Special diet requests must be arranged in advance through the Food & Nutrition Department.

Students will be able participate in their general education classes remotely from the special 
education classroom when they are onsite, and from home when working remotely. Their 
schedule should not have to change just because they are coming in person.

A district nurse will be on site when students are in attendance.

We have recently been able to expand usage of our outdoor facilities. Playgrounds, tracks, and tennis courts are available for weekend and evening use (Please note that some elementary schools have childcare on site until 5:30 p.m. weekdays, so play structures may not be available until that time). All District school campuses and outdoor facilities, including playgrounds, tracks and tennis courts, are closed to the public during the school day from 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Specialist’s classes as those listed in the question will continue to be provided remotely at this time and students will continue to access those services whether attending onsite at a school or from home.

Paraeducator support will be available to assist students based on identified needs whether services are provided in person or remotely.

All students will have their temperature taken upon arrival to the school. A student will fail the 
screening if their temperature is 100.4 or greater. If a student fails the temperature screening with a temperature of 100.4 or greater the student will be directed to an isolation area where an assessment will take place. The assessment includes a series of screening questions, retaking of student’s temperature, and documenting the assessment results.

Nurses will be following illness symptom management decision trees provided by the most restrictive local health department recommendations for isolating and managing students and staff who have COVID like illness symptoms in a school setting.

Parents will be contacted by a designed school employee and the student will stay in the isolation room until the parent/guardian picks up the student. The parent will be provided with an exclusion note explaining why the student requires isolation and be given a COVID information packet regarding next steps and when they can return to school.
