In Northshore, we believe every student deserves to thrive in their neighborhood school—where they receive the support they need, when they need it, surrounded by neighborhood peers and rooted in their community. Our multi-year work to bring services to our neighborhood schools reflects this belief and our deep commitment to inclusion and excellence for each and every student.
Progress towards this commitment includes:
- Delivery of multilingual services, services supporting students learning English are currently provided in every school.
- Over the past two years, we have been expanding access to highly capable services in neighborhood schools.
- And, building on this progress, we are excited to share that, following extensive input from parents, staff, and school leaders, in June we will be publicly introducing Special Education’s Continuum of Services plan. This plan outlines how over multiple years, we will be transitioning the continuum of special education services to neighborhood schools.
This is about more than logistics—this is about belonging. When students learn in the schools closest to their homes, they build deeper connections with classmates, neighbors, and their wider community. They grow alongside friends and share in school traditions, building a stronger sense of identity and inclusion.
Once fully implemented, our approach to neighborhood schools will ensure students remain close to home, connected to their community, while receiving the challenging content and enriching learning opportunities that they each need to succeed.
We are grateful for the partnership and feedback of our families, educators, and staff in shaping these efforts. Together, we will continue to strengthen our neighborhood schools, ensuring they remain places of opportunity, and high-quality learning for every child.
