School Board Adopts Resolution No. 818: Black Lives Matter

During the June 8, 2020 regular meeting, the Northshore School District Board of Directors unanimously approved Resolution No. 818: Black Lives Matter:

A Resolution of the Board of Directors of Northshore School District No. 417, King and Snohomish Counties, Washington, affirming that Black lives matter.

WHEREAS, the School District Board of Directors is accountable to oversee and to ensure the highest quality education and school community for our students and staff; and

WHEREAS, the Board acknowledges that it is impossible for us to fully understand the injustice that our Black neighbors, friends, and loved ones experience and have endured; and

WHEREAS, our Black students, staff, and families continue to suffer through inequities in education, healthcare, employment, housing, and liberty; and

WHEREAS, systemic and institutional racial inequities are a pervasive injustice, which prevents this country from living up to its ideals of liberty and justice for all; and

WHEREAS, the Board strongly wants our Black students, staff, and families to know that we see you, we hear you, we care deeply about you and about your future; and

WHEREAS, bigotry, hate, fear, and violence must be overcome with compassion, love, education, and justice; and

WHEREAS, the time for equality and justice in our society is long overdue;

NOW, THEREFORE, the Board of Directors of Northshore School District resolves:

  1. Black lives matter.
  2. We will learn from and partner with our Black community members to help achieve equality across our nation.
  3. We endorse Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action

ADOPTED by the Board of Directors of Northshore School District No. 417, King and Snohomish Counties, Washington, at its regular meeting on June 8, 2020.
