Preparation for 8 School Construction Updates Makes Steady Progress

The Capital Projects team has been working steadily behind the scenes in planning for the 8 growth project sites that were approved in the 2022 Capital Bond. The schools have been grouped into projects based on the scope of the work, with updates provided for each below.

One of the projects planned is to expand four schools – Crystal Springs, Fernwood, and Woodin elementaries and Sorenson Early Childhood Center. This project’s goal at each campus is to reduce the amount of portables as much as possible if not eliminate them entirely, add new permanent classrooms, and provide an inclusive playground. This project recently went through the bidding process and an apparent winner has been chosen using a progressive design build delivery model. Board approval of the selected contractor is scheduled for Nov. 14, and then contract negotiations will follow. The final contract award is anticipated early in 2023.

The modernization project includes two schools – Maywood Hills and Kenmore Elementary. This project’s goal for each school is to reduce the number of portables as much as possible if not eliminate them entirely, remove some existing classrooms, add new permanent classrooms, and provide an inclusive playground. The invitation for contractors to bid on this project was posted on Nov. 1. The procurement process  is planned to be complete by Jan. 20, 2023. The contract award is anticipated in the first quarter of 2023.

The Inglemoor High School replacement project is a multi-phase/multi-year project. The bond funding will include the architectural redesign of the entire school as well as Phase I of the construction. Phase I’s project scope may include: new boilers, new entry plaza, new gym, adding additional permanent classrooms, removing portables, and improving circulation. Phase II construction funding would need to be secured before being built. Capital Projects is currently reviewing all architectural services proposals and will be conducting interviews with the finalists this month.

Leota Middle School, like Inglemoor, will be a multi-phase/multi-year replacement project. The bond funding will include the architectural redesign of the entire school as well as Phase I of the construction. Phase I’s project scope may include: removing portables, adding new permanent classrooms, a new gym, new commons, new entry, new admin space, improving site circulation, and adding parking. Capital Projects is currently reviewing all architectural services proposals and will be conducting interviews with the finalists this month.
