Northshore Students Win National Merit Scholarships

Five headshots of students who have won National Merit Scholarships

Congratulations to seniors Jeremy Antone and Nitya Kansal (North Creek High School) and Taiyo Oishi, Annabelle Yip, and Joshua Zou (Inglemoor High School) for receiving National Merit Scholarships this spring. These students were announced as scholarship winners in the corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarship program and Merit $2,500 Scholarship program.

Antone received a National Merit Boeing Scholarship, which is part of Boeing’s merit scholarship awards given annually to children of employees. Approximately 700 high school seniors nationwide have won corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarship awards financed by corporations, company foundations, and other business organizations. Most of these awards are renewable for up to four years of college undergraduate study and provide annual stipends that range from $1,000 to $10,000 per year. Some provide a single payment between $2,500 and $10,000.

Kansal, Oishi, Yip, and Zou each received a National Merit $2,500 Scholarship, which were selected by college admissions counselors and high school counselors based on academic record, contributions and leadership in school and community activities, and more. A total of 2,500 Merit Scholarship winners were selected from a pool of more than 15,000 students nationwide.

The National Merit Scholarships are announced over time during the spring and summer, providing awards to students who qualified as National Merit Finalists. Additional scholarship winners from the finalists will be announced in June and July. The Northshore School District has 16 finalists in the Class of 2026. By the conclusion of the 2026 competition, more than 6,700 finalists will have been selected to receive scholarships totaling nearly $24 million.
