Northshore Students Compete at State DECA Conference

Washington DECA’s State Career Development Conference (SCDC) took place Feb. 27 - March 1 in Bellevue. Over the course of the conference, more than 600 industry judges and DECA volunteers assess and evaluate thousands of DECA students in competitive events. DECA’s emerging leaders are put to the test with an examination and multiple rounds of presentations. Northshore School District high school students competed against 5,500 students from across Washington and did an outstanding job. Seven students finished first in the state in their competitive events. Almost 100 students from Northshore high schools finished in the top 10 in their events and will have an opportunity to compete at the International Career Development Conference in California in April. North Creek High School’s DECA chapter also received the Chapter Champion Award in the category of “Academically Prepared,” which went to one chapter in the state for its member preparation for competitive success.

The following teams received Gold-level Certifications for their School-Based Enterprise: North Creek High School students Jazlyne Surani and Eesha Bayana in the School-Based Enterprise Event, Inglemoor High School students Reese Lawlor and Daniel Su in Sports and Entertainment Marketing Team Decision Making, and Arman Alexander and William He in School-Based Enterprise Event. For the certification process, SBE student leaders completed a written project to demonstrate how their SBE met the National Curriculum Standards and showcased how their retail operations or food service operations school-based business adheres to select model business standards. These student teams will travel to the ICDC.

As part of DECA's Emerging Leader Series, academies offer student leaders the ability to expand their knowledge and experiences, building on the critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, and innovation skills they have continued to develop throughout their experience in DECA. The academies take place as part of the ICDC. Congratulations to Bothell students Sriram Kumar and Pranav Mullakkal (attending the Thrive Academy) and Katelyn McKnight and Roopan Rai (attending the School-Based Enterprise Academy).
