Northshore Students Advance to State 2025 National History Day Contest

Northshore Students Advance to State 2025 National History Day Contest

Congratulations to all students who participated in the regional competition for National History Day that took place at Northshore Middle School on March 22. This event included 368 student participants representing 13 middle and high schools from our area. From Northshore, 77 students have advanced from regionals to the state competition for National History Day, which will take place in late April. See below for results and photos from the event.

This year’s theme was "Rights & Responsibilities in History" and students were encouraged to consider questions of time and place, cause and effect, change over time, and impact and significance as they researched and created their projects.

Northshore students independently select a historical topic related to the annual theme, and then conduct primary and secondary research. They accessed libraries, archives, and museums, conducted oral history interviews, and visited historic sites to gather information. After they analyzed and interpreted their sources and drew conclusions about the significance of the topic, they presented their work in one of five ways: as a paper, an exhibit, a performance, a documentary, or a website. There are two divisions: Junior (6-8 grade) and Senior (9-12 grade). Students entered either as an individual or in a group.

In addition to the hard work of the students, more than 70 volunteers dedicated their time to reviewing student projects, interviewing the students, and providing constructive feedback on their projects. The students benefited greatly from volunteers’ time and dedication.

Congratulations to all of these students for their hard work this year!
