Northshore School Board Appoints Dr. Robert Weir as District 5 Director

The Northshore Board of Directors has appointed Dr. Robert Weir to serve as the new District 5 School Board Director. District 5 includes Woodinville and areas of Redmond and unincorporated King County.

Dr. Weir was selected following an extensive appointment process that began in July and included a review of 12 applications and public interviews with four finalists on August 27.

The Board expressed its deep appreciation to all 12 community members who stepped forward to be considered for the position. Board Directors noted that narrowing such a highly qualified group was extremely difficult and reflected the tremendous depth of knowledge, experience, and commitment within the Northshore community.

“We are so grateful to the many candidates who expressed interest in this position,” said Board President Sandy Hayes. “It was difficult to narrow the field to the four candidates we interviewed. Our finalist, Dr. Weir brings a unique skill set and area of expertise, mental and behavioral health, to the Board, one that we believe will benefit all of our students. We look forward to working with him on the Board as we continue to serve and govern Northshore.”

In response to the appointment, Dr. Weir stated, “I’m deeply grateful to the board for this honor. With so many qualified applicants who care about Northshore, I know this was not an easy decision. As a Northshore parent, my family will be part of these schools for decades, and I believe every child in this district deserves what I want for my own three: an excellent education and the support to thrive. I’m ready to get to work for the students and families of Northshore!”

Dr. Weir will be sworn in at the Board’s next regular meeting on September 14, 2026, and will begin his School Board responsibilities that evening.

Dr. Weir will serve through November 2027, when Northshore voters will elect a representative to complete the final two years of the District 5 term.

Dr. Weir’s Background

Dr. Weir currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer at Fairfax Behavioral Health and is a board-certified neurologist and psychiatrist. A former enlisted Marine and current Major in the U.S. Army Reserve, he brings extensive expertise in mental and behavioral health, public policy, and community service to this new role.

Dr. Weir has been appointed by the Washington State Legislature to provide expertise and guidance on efforts to improve mental health for Washington residents. He serves on the Executive Committee of the American Psychiatric Association’s Caucus on Climate Change and Mental Health and previously served on the Board of Directors of Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment, with a focus on youth brain and mental health.

Locally, Dr. Weir is active with the Woodinville Rotary and participates in community service projects along with his children, hoping to instill a lifelong love of service in them.

Dr. Weir is also a Northshore parent. He has a second-grade student currently attending Northshore schools and two younger children who will join the district in the years ahead.
