NMS Teacher Alan Plummer, Superintendent Michael Tolley, Principal Tiffany Rodriguez Garza, and students

Congratulations to Northshore Middle School social studies teacher Alan Plummer for being named the National History Day Junior Teacher of the Year for Washington state! Superintendent Michael Tolley recently surprised Plummer during class to congratulate him for the deserved recognition. On this particular day, Plummer and his 8th grade AAP US History students were learning about the Revolutionary Way through a simulation that involved a game of capture the flag.

Washington state nominated one middle school and one high school teacher for this award, and Plummer was selected for his support of middle school students. According to the National History Day organization, every nominee for the $10,000 award is a teacher who demonstrates a commitment to engaging students in historical learning through the innovative use of primary sources, implementation of active learning strategies to foster historical thinking skills, and participation in the National History Day Contest. All nominees receive $500. Thank you for supporting Northshore students, Mr. Plummer, and congratulations on this deserved recognition!
