Congratulations to seniors Saanvi Subramanian (Bothell High School), Sanika Datar, Claire Meng, Monica Spassova, and Vaishnavi Subramanian (Inglemoor High School), and Jishnu Mehta (Woodinville High School) for receiving National Merit Scholarships this spring. These students were announced as scholarship winners in the corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarship program and Merit $2,500 Scholarship program.
Datar and Spassova each received a National Merit Boeing Scholarship, which is part of Boeing’s merit scholarship awards given annually to children of employees. Approximately 830 high school seniors nationwide have won corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarship awards financed by corporations, community foundations, and other business organizations. Most of these awards are renewable for up to four years of college undergraduate study and provide annual stipends that range from $1,000 to $10,000 per year. Some provide a single payment between $2,500 and $5,000.
Saanvi Subramanian, Meng, Vaishnavi Subramanian, and Mehta each received a Merit $2,500 Scholarship, which were selected by college admissions counselors and high school counselors based on academic record, contributions and leadership in school and community activities, and more. A total of 2,500 Merit Scholarship winners were selected from a pool of more than 15,000 students nationwide.
The National Merit Scholarships are announced over time during the spring and summer, providing awards to students who qualified as National Merit Finalists. Additional scholarship winners from the finalists will be announced in June and July. The Northshore School District has 25 finalists in the Class of 2025. By the conclusion of the 2025 competition, more than 6,900 finalists will have been selected to receive scholarships totaling nearly $26 million.
