Did you know? It is reported that when bystanders intervene, bullying stops in 10 seconds 57% of the time. Because educators are unable to witness each incident, it is important that students are taught how to speak up and advocate for their classmates.
Throughout the month of October, Northshore schools are encouraged to participate in activities designed to support and raise awareness about bullying prevention. Here are some ways you can participate in National Bullying Prevention Month:
- Wear blue and challenge others to be kind on Monday, Oct. 7 for World Day of Bullying Prevention
- Create positive messages to hand out for STAND UP for Others Week (Oct. 14 - 18).
- Introduce yourself to someone you've never met for the Week of Inclusion (Oct. 21 - 25).
- Have conversations with your peers about how to create a judgement and bully-free school
While the month of October is focused on raising awareness of the cause, this is important work to practice year round.
