Crystal Springs - July 2025 Construction Update

Progress on the expansion project at Crystal Springs Elementary accelerated after the end of the school year in June. Once the campus was vacant, contractors were able to remove all remaining portable classrooms, with some surplussed and sold and some demolished due to their condition.

Progress on the new two-story building continues and is on track to be completed when the new school year begins in September. When complete, the front entrance to the building will take students to the commons and kitchen area for breakfast and lunch. The commons is adjacent to the gym that includes a small multi-purpose platform. Both the gym and commons have windows near the roofline adding natural light to the space. At the back of the building are 7 classrooms, shared and small group areas, and an OT/PT space to support students. The building and spaces within were designed to allow collaboration and flexibility in uses for future needs. Two new music classrooms are also part of this new building.

Large portions of the existing parking lots have been or will be excavated completely in preparation for site work including utility hook-ups, new pipes laid, the installation of a storm water detention piping, and frontage improvements that will include sidewalks, landscaping, and bike lanes. The new bus loop and a portion of the middle parking lot will be complete in September for the new school year, however there is an area near the southern part of campus along 9th Ave. SE that will still be a construction zone as the streetfront and site circulation improvements are finalized in early November.   The middle parking lot will be set up in a temporary fashion for student drop off and pick up until all the site improvements can be completed.

The outdoor learning space is also under a complete renovation. The new covered play area structure is framed with the roof installation underway. Next to the covered play area will be a multipurpose turf field alongside a fully inclusive playground. The installation of both of these is beginning and is expected to be complete in September.

This expansion project was made possible due to voter support of the 2022 Capital Bond.
