Crystal Springs and Kokanee Network Modernization Projects are Underway
Network modernization at Crystal Springs

This summer the network wiring at Kokanee and Crystal Springs elementaries is being upgraded, which will increase the network speeds, expand wireless coverage areas, and improve reliability for students and staff. The wiring at these schools was installed around 1992 and is far below current network standards. This modernization project, which is made possible thanks to the generous support of our Northshore community who voted to approve the 2018 bond, will prepare these schools for the next 30 years of network needs. Below is a list of modernizations scheduled for the summer:

  • Replacing the fiber optic cable that connects each building with single-mode fiber optic cable that supports much higher speeds and more efficient connections;
  • Replacing old copper network cable in the walls with new higher speed cable that will be good for the next 25+ years;
  • Adding high-speed wireless connections in the ceiling of each classroom and many office locations to provide enhanced wireless network coverage that will support anticipated needs in coming years;
  • Adding high-speed wireless connections in large meeting spaces (gym, library, etc.) that are currently under-covered to support the increased number of student computing devices; and
  • Upgrading facilities in our network rooms to better protect equipment and reduce unnecessary outages.
