Classroom Lock Upgrades are Complete

The classroom security lock upgrade project is complete. The final phase of districtwide classroom lock installs was completed just prior to mid-winter break. All 35 schools, including the District’s newest schools Ruby Bridges Elementary and Innovation Lab High School, have new classroom security locks. The classroom lock project included nearly 3,500 locks to main classroom entries, as well as secondary access points to classrooms. The new classroom locks can be locked from inside the classroom without the use of a key, while the old locks required someone to lock the door from the outside with a key. The new main entry locks also have visual indicators which will help in an emergency situation. These important safety improvements were made possible thanks to the generous support of the Northshore community who voted to approve the 2018 bond.
