What was your favorite class in school and why?
My favorite class I took was IB psychology. I loved learning about why humans are the way that they are on a level that goes beyond just our individual experiences. I think it is super important for people to understand psychological processes on a basic level so that they can understand both themselves and other people.
What extracurricular activities did you participate in?
I participated in a lot of extracurricular activities. I played volleyball during my freshmen and sophomore year because I had played since middle school and loved it and I tried golf my sophomore year just to try something new. The most significant extracurricular I participated in was ASB where I served as a class officer my freshmen through junior year and then moved to served as the ASB Executive President my senior year. Service is super important to me, I love to plan things and be behind the scenes, and I love school spirit, which is why ASB was so important to me. ASB helped me to learn a ton about myself. I also participated in DECA from my sophomore year to my senior year, because I heard great things about the club and wanted to have fun while being able to better my public speaking skills. Also from my sophomore to senior year, I participated in National Honors Society as a way for me to try and give back to my community by volunteering. Starting my junior year, one of my friends encouraged me to join AAPI club as she was one of the presidents and I did because my Asian culture is super important to me as I am half Korean. And finally starting junior year, I took on the IB diploma and with that hoped to become more focused on what I wanted to do with my life so I joined HOSA to see what the medical field might be like. For almost all of these clubs, I served as an executive board member my senior year because of how important leadership is to me.
What advice would you give your younger self?
I would tell my younger self that you CAN do it all. You can take on and do hard things while also living a balanced life. As long as you make sure to prioritize things and foremost prioritize yourself, you can do anything you think you can.
What are your plans after graduation?
I plan to attend the University of Washington and peruse a degree in Public Health.
Please share with us the name of a person in your life who stands out as having supported you along the way to high school graduation. What is your relationship to them? (This could be a parent/guardian, teacher, counselor, coach, mentor, community member, etc.)
My parents, Raph and Kelly.
What did that person do or say that made a difference and what impact did they have on you?
Everything my parents have done has been for me. They worked hard to give me a better opportunity than they had, they encourage me no matter what, and they have helped me to believe in myself.

What schools did you attend in grades K-12?
East Ridge Elementary School, Timbercrest Middle School, Innovation Lab High School
What was your favorite class in school and why?
My favorite class was Medical Interventions at ILHS. I felt like I was truly moving on from surface level information on a subject to real-world, applicable knowledge in an area of science that I am passionate about. In covering vaccines, disease outbreak prevention, and oncology, we were able to learn about current advancements in the context of recent events, as well as exploring careers in these fields.
What extracurricular activities did you participate in?
My extracurricular activities reflected my own passions, my desire to create new opportunities at ILHS for other students and having an impact on the community. I played volleyball at Woodinville High School as well as club volleyball and was selected as captain for both. I co-founded the Kindness Club and initiated the creation of the National Honor Society chapter at ILHS, as well as served as President of the Yearbook Club. I have been an active Girl Scout since Kindergarten and earned my Gold Award. I participated in the Superintendent Student Advisory Board and volunteered on the Northshore YMCA Teen Board. I also worked at Thrive Community Fitness as a Supervisor.
What advice would you give to younger students?
Don’t live a life of accomplishments without the joy behind it. Let yourself follow your interests. Find something that forces you to keep looking forward—something that makes the hard work worth it. Find your place. Find your people. Find your purpose. But let it all revolve around joy.
What are your plans after graduation?

Rachel Zimberg - my younger sister
What did that person do or say that made a difference and what impact did they have on you?
Rachel has been a part of almost my entire life. She has been many things to me throughout the years, and is now my ride or die, my best friend. I used to take on the role of parent because I felt the need to protect her and in doing so learned many skills of responsibility. In addition to learning time management, I also learned my first skills of collaboration from her. Growing up, whether outright or internally, everything became a competition. She pushed me to do my best which encouraged my academic goals. While she has all of her things to think about, she continues to be a major support for me.

What was your favorite class in school and why?
My favorite class in school was calculus. I fell in love with the beautiful logic and interrelation of limits, derivatives, and integrals and the wide-ranging applications of calculus in fields like physics and computer science.
What extracurricular activities did you participate in?
In high school I participated in Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Technology Student Association (TSA), Associated Student Body (ASB), Honor Society, and theatre. I joined FBLA and TSA to get a taste of competitive clubs in high school and build career/technical competencies. I joined ASB and Honor Society because I was passionate about student leadership and making a difference in my wider community. I joined theatre because I loved playing larger-than-life characters and making people laugh and smile. Outside of school, I launched a business with friends to develop apps in order to get a feel for entrepreneurship.
What advice would you give to younger students?
My two biggest pieces of advice:
1) Live your life for *you.* Don't spend your life to trying to meet the expectations of others, whether that be colleges, friends, or even your parents. The world is constantly changing and standards surrounding academics, college admissions, and even career fields will only continue to shift as time goes on; it's a waste of time and energy to try to keep up with ever-evolving notions of the 'perfect' life. The best thing you can do for yourself and the wider world is to follow your curiosities and do the things that bring you true joy.
2) Live your life with *others.* Life is meant to be lived alongside others. Don't spend your life alone, silently bearing your physical, mental, and/or spiritual burdens by yourself. Cherish the time you have with your family and be intentional about connecting with the human beings around you. You'll be amazed just how much one person can change your life and how much you can change the life of one person.
What are your plans after graduation?
My plan after graduation is to pursue an undergraduate degree at Harvard College. Currently, I am interested in exploring Economics and Physics.
Please share with us the name of a person in your life who stands out as having supported you along the way to high school graduation. What is your relationship to them? (This could be a parent/guardian, teacher, counselor, coach, mentor, community member, etc.)
My parents, Ann Samuel and Finny Samuel.
What did that person do or say that made a difference and what impact did they have on you?
My parents pushed me to explore, experiment, grow, and learn. The immense love and care they selflessly poured into me gave me the confidence to overcome my fear of failure and joyously pursue my curiosities and passions. What's more, the love they poured into me inspired me to show that same love towards others. My parents have deeply blessed me in the way they have given of themselves to me. Now, I desire to give in that same way to the world around me.

What was your favorite class in school and why?
My favorite class in school is Forensic Science. I love this class because forensics is such an interesting discipline of science. It is so much fun to learn about some of the science that goes into criminal investigation. This class was also fun because I had an amazing teacher. My teacher, Mary, was so kind and amazing at making learning fun. She always came up with cool, hands-on projects that applied what we learned. These two things made Forensic Science my favorite class.
What extracurricular activities did you participate in?
Some of my extracurricular activities include hiking, music, skiing, camp counseling, and running. I love getting out in nature and disconnecting with the world, so hiking is one of my favorite hobbies. Going out and doing something hard while enjoying nature is so fun and relaxing. That is part of the reason I also love running and skiing. I also love music. I love playing the piano, guitar, and singing. One of the best feelings in the world is playing along to your favorite song and having it sound the same. Listening and playing music is very relaxing and therapeutic to me. I am also a volunteer counselor for a summer camp. Counseling is really fun and exhausting at the same time. I love helping to plan and lead the activities at camp. It is also really fun to get to know the campers and help them learn new things.
What advice would you give to younger students?
I would tell younger students these three things:
1. Don't give up
2. Grades don't define your worth
3. Have fun. You only get to go through high school once
What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation, I plan to attend the University of Utah, studying chemistry. From there, I hope to become a Forensic Chemist.
Please share with us the name of a person in your life who stands out as having supported you along the way to high school graduation. What is your relationship to them? (This could be a parent/guardian, teacher, counselor, coach, mentor, community member, etc.)
A lot of people have supported me along the way to my high school graduation. The main ones have been my parents, Ryan and Elisa Best, a teacher, Grace Hartinger, and a mentor, Amy Clark.
What did that person do or say that made a difference and what impact did they have on you?
My parents helped me through their love and support. They helped me get through all my school years. I am not sure if I could have done it without them. My teacher, Grace Hartinger, helped me feel respected and loved at school. She helped me become a better person and encouraged me to chase after my dreams. Finally, my mentor Amy Clark. She helped me build confidence in who I am. She taught me a lot of important lessons about life and has helped me become the person I am today. I am truly thankful to all these people. They have made me who I am today, and are the reason I am graduating.

What was your favorite class in school and why?
I’ve always enjoyed social studies, because we’re learning about the past, what’s going on now, and what it means for the future. I hope to teach social studies myself after college.
What extracurricular activities did you participate in and why?
I joined the SAS Music Program and really found my voice there, I’ve always loved singing, and it was nice to have an environment to share music with people who loved it as much as I did.
What advice would you give to younger students?
Say hi to new people. If you see someone who’s slightly interesting, or you notice something different and cool about them, just say hi. Maybe it’s complimenting their eyeliner, asking them what they’re listening to, or asking them if they wanna sit with you at lunch. Any way you can, make sure people know that you’re there to say hi, and welcome people in. Be the person who makes school feel more like a community.
What are your plans after graduation?
Next year I’m going to Western Washington University, and I plan on pursuing a career in education. I’ve worked with kids for quite some time now, and I really want to help kids find resources that I had or didn’t have growing up, like a positive role model, or someone who they can talk to about stuff they might not have anyone else to talk with about.
Please share with us the name of a person in your life who stands out as having supported you along the way to high school graduation. What is your relationship to them? (This could be a parent/guardian, teacher, counselor, coach, mentor, community member, etc.)
I call my teacher Robert Morgan my guru. He’s really helped me in some of high school’s toughest moments, and he always has the right thing to say when no one else has an answer.
What did that person do or say that made a difference and what impact did they have on you?
Robert showed me how to feel more confident in myself, and become a leader in my school. He gave me the confidence to welcome kids into school, and talk to people I don’t know that well. Talking with him has helped me believe in myself more than I used to.

What schools did you attend in grades K-12?
Canyon Creek Elementary, Leota Middle School, Woodinville High School
What was your favorite class in school and why?
My favorite class is AP Biology, as it is the first class in my entire high school journey that both challenges and intrigues me in terms of the curriculum. My teacher, Ms. Johns, has brought her passion and expertise in the field to make the class enjoyable and thought-provoking through various activities, such as the numerous hands-on lab experiments.
What extracurricular activities did you participate in and why?
On the academic side of extracurricular activities, I've participated in Woodinville's Model United Nations club, serving as both an officer and a member. Initially, I joined the club because it shared the same last name as mine, and I was immediately fascinated by the idea of having the opportunity to participate in a United Nations simulation as high schoolers. I decided to stick with the club as it helped improve both my public speaking and research skills.
On the more performance side of extracurricular activities, I've participated in Woodinville's music program as a cellist in the orchestra. I first started learning the cello in 4th grade, under the influence of my parents, and it has stuck with me to this day because I genuinely enjoy both listening to and playing music.
What advice would you give to younger students?
Live your age and enjoy things happening now. People have always learned to look into the future and the past, but we neglect to acknowledge the present. The truth is, the best time to enjoy things is the present moment. Don't get too caught up in planning and reminiscing; take a moment to embrace living in the present fully.
What are your plans after graduation?
I plan to pursue a degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Southern California after graduation. My current aspirations are to eventually enroll in medical school and become a doctor in the long run.
Please share with us the name of a person in your life who stands out as having supported you along the way to high school graduation. What is your relationship to them? (This could be a parent/guardian, teacher, counselor, coach, mentor, community member, etc.)
My father, Jason Mun.
What did that person do or say that made a difference and what impact did they have on you?
Some time ago, we were replacing the windows of our house. My father is a construction worker, so we didn't need to hire anyone to do the job for us. As I continually brought window panels up and down the ladder, I grew frustrated at the magnitude of the work that needed to be done. My father saw my growing impatience and started giving a lecture about the difficulties and rewards that come with hard work. His talk stuck with me to this day, as my father is the golden definition of backbreaking labor. Coming from a farm in rural South Korea, my father has pursued the American dream for over 30 years, aiming to live a relatively comfortable life. I feel grateful that I'm able to graduate from high school and pursue college with little to no hardship, thanks to my parents' sacrifices. My father's lectures on hard work truly made a difference in my life, inspiring me to continuously climb the social ladder and never give up.
