We deeply appreciate and value the contributions of our volunteer art docents, and we are excited to see what projects and activities our students will create this school year! This newsletter will highlight some wonderful activities that were done in our school classrooms last semester, led by our art docent volunteers, include details about an upcoming training opportunity, and share additional resources.
As a reminder, please note that the Art Docent Portal passkey has changed if you are having trouble logging in. For the new password, please send an email to partnerships@nsd.org to request the updated passkey.

School: Arrowhead Elementary
Art Docent: Heather Buchanan
Class: Mrs. Baughman, 1st Grade
Project: Valentine's Day - Positive and Negative Space
This project was intended to demonstrate the difference between positive and negative space. First graders used stencils and paint to create special cards for their parents/caregivers. The featured artist was M.C. Escher, showcasing how he used positive and negative space in different ways to add interest to his artwork.
School: Cottage Lake Elementary
Art Docent: Marie Engstrom
Class: School Wide
Project: STEAM Fair
On March 15th, Cottage Lake Elementary hosted an art gallery as part of the STEAM fair. All classes and students were showcased in the event in the school cafeteria. We were proud to display pieces from many types of media, including glass, ceramic and various types of paint, pastels and paper. Families were able to walk through the gallery and view the pieces. Thank you to our many Art Docents who helped make this possible!
