First Time Credit Course Descriptions

SS/OLH520: Online Health
Grades 9-12 
.5 Credit

All coursework will be completed online. Students will receive an email from the teacher with a link to an instructional podcast in June. All coursework must be completed by July 28th. 

Students will learn about nutrition, exercise, substance abuse prevention, managing emotions and stress, handling crisis, heart disease and cancer, human sexuality, HIV/AIDS, and CPR techniques. They will research health issues and discuss national and world concerns.

SS/PLF205: Life Fitness
Grades 9-12 
.5 Credit

Welcome to Life Fitness (LF). The objectives of this class are to increase your muscular strength, improve your cardiovascular fitness while creating an understanding of why lifelong fitness is an important goal. LF is a .50 credit class. To earn the credit and accomplish these goals, you will be working through a series of 30 “daily” assignments, each worth .01 in credit = .30. You will be writing up an exercise routine that fits YOUR needs and trying it out, as best as we can, for the additional .10 in credit. Finally, your tests/quizzes are worth .10 in credit for a total of .50. If we have no tests/quizzes, then that .10 credit will move to the final project. (.10 in credit = 20% of the .50 overall credit)

SS/PPE205: PE
Grades 9-12

Welcome to PE. The objectives of this class are to increase your activity while improving your cardiovascular fitness all while having fun doing a variety of activities. To earn the credit and accomplish these goals, you will be tracking your weekly exercise/movements on a form I provide via Schoology and submitting that towards the end of each week. The big push is just to get you up and moving!

SS/SSW145: Washington State History Graduation Requirement
Grades 8-12
NO CREDIT

This course meets the Washington State History graduation requirement.

This course is for students who have not taken Washington State History. 

SS/ADD105: Drawing & Design
Grades 9-12 
.5 Credit

No experience necessary. This is a great place to learn basic drawing skills. Introduces student to the basic elements of art and principles of design while using a variety of media including watercolor, paint, pen and ink, charcoal, color pencil and oil pastel. Student learn how to use perspective, pattern, texture and color to create projects that are fun while improving knowledge of design. These skills are necessary to excel in all other art classes. Drawing skill are not required.
