This year the KJH will offer extended science club hours every other week. On days that extended hours are offered, Mrs Towers will keep her room, 413, open until 5pm. This is being offered to accomodate 6th grade participants from Lockwood and Kenmore Elementaries who will be joining us.
Tuesday, October 4th will be the first official meeting for Science Club. Come join us from 2:40-4:10 in room 413 to hear all about the new events for 2017. All are welcome even if you're not sure about participating.
The KJH Science Club strives to enrich scientific knowledge and curiosity through an adventurous and challenging curriculum that develops students of character, responsibility, and consciousness ready for challenges in the 21st century. Students study and train for a variety of science, math and engineering events in local and state-wide competitions.
1. Who can join the science club?
The science club is open to any 7th, 8th or 9th grade student attending Kenmore Jr High. Sixth grade students from Lockwood Elementary and Kenmore Elementary are welcome to join us as well.
2. What If I'm Involved In Sports, Can I Still Be In The Science Club?
Yes! The science club is year round. Many of the members are involved in other various school activities and still participate in the science club. We would like to see student come at least once a week, however, as long as students attend at least once a month they are able to still compete in the science olympiad tournaments.
3. Is There Any Cost To Be In The Science Club?
Yes and no. There is no cost to be a part of the science club meetings after school, however some trips that we take are longer and some cost is involved. Students are also required to have a current ASB card.
4. When Does The Science Club Meet?
Science club meets every Tuesday after school from 2:45-4:10 p.m. in Mrs. Towers' room, room 413. Weeks that have a holiday or no school on Tuesday will be rescheduled if desired by the students.
5. I'm A Parent, How Can I Help With The Science Club?
Parent volunteers are always welcome. All parents need is a background check through the district. Parents are especially needed to help during our various trips. We would love for any parents with a background in robotics, engineering, and aviation to act as mentors for the students. Donations of snacks and supplies are also welcome.
