2017 Transition Planning

  • The Northshore School District is planning for several major transitions in the fall of 2017. Please click the link below to read more:
Grade Reconfiguration. The district is moving from grades 7-9 junior high schools to grades 6-8 middle schools, and ninth-graders will be joining grades 10-12 in our high schools.
Boundary Changes. Many students will be shifting to different schools next year as boundaries change to accommodate our fast-growing district and our new high school feeder patterns.
Later Start Times. Northshore schools will start and end about 25 minutes later beginning in the fall of 2017.
North Creek High School. The district's fourth comprehensive high school opens to grades 9-11 in fall of 2017.

Transition Planning History: Open Houses on Grade Reconfiguration and Transition Support
Northshore schools will move to K-5 elementary schools, 6-8 middle schools and 9-12 high schools in fall 2017. The district held open houses in March 2016 for participants to talk with district staff and principals about the changes that will happen through grade reconfiguration, the work of the grade reconfiguration task forces and the planning schools (and the district) are doing to support students, staff and families through the transitions.

Importantly, participants will had an opportunity to provide input on transition needs in relation to the various changes that will occur in fall 2017 (grade reconfiguration, boundary adjustments, the opening of North Creek High School, later high school start times, and full-day kindergarten). The input form was also available online in English and Spanish from the district website before the first open house on March 2. This input was shared with the district, schools and associated task forces to support their work in developing plans to support students, staff and families.

Final 2017 boundary maps were displayed, as well as information on the early transition waiver process and enrollment growth and mitigation. The format of each open house on March 2, 9, 15 and 23 was the same, and participants were welcome to attend the event(s) that is most convenient. The March 31 open house event was conducted in Spanish and had a slightly different format.

District Survey to Support Grade Reconfiguration and Transition Work
Northshore School District will change grade levels and move to K-5 elementary schools, 6-8 middle schools and 9-12 high schools in fall 2017. Grade Reconfiguration Task Forces—elementary, middle school and high school—have been planning for the implementation of grade reconfiguration and developing recommendations on academics, electives, activities/athletics, schedules and transition support for the associated levels. A survey, which ended March 7, 2016, was designed to gather community input on various topics related to grade reconfiguration, which helped inform the work of each task force, the district and schools.
