Principal's Corner

    Dear Woodin Families,
Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year! I am thrilled to be introducing myself as your new principal. As I have been spending time getting to know the Woodin staff over the last few weeks it is continually evident what a special place this is for students, families and learning. I am looking forward to the year ahead and getting to know you and your children. Until we have the opportunity to meet, I though I'd share a little background about myself.
On a personal note, I grew up in El Paso, Texas and moved to Washington State my junior year in high school. My husband, Jeff, and I have two wonderful boys and two very sweet labs.  We love to keep busy on the weekends and can often be found on the soccer field, surfing or up in the mountains skiing.
My career in education began in the Bellevue School District where I taught kindergarten, first, second and K-6 special education. After many years of teaching I was offered an opportunity to be an ELL coach at several schools in the district, where I worked closely with teachers on supporting English Language Learners. I then spent two years as a literacy coach at Clyde Hill Elementary. Serving as a building level coach helped me discover my passion for working alongside staff in order to impact student learning on a larger scale. In 2008 I joined the Northshore School District, and served as the assistant principal at both Woodmoor Elementary and Canyon Creek. I have absolutely loved both of these positions and the relationships that have been built with teachers and families around student achievement and success.
I'm looking forward to working at Woodin, meeting each of you and learning more about the Woodin community. I am excited to continue the work the entire school community has done to make Woodin a warm and positive learning environment for students.
    Dawn Bowers, Principal
