November 14, 2022: Connections Newsletter Message

November 14, 2022

Dear Northshore Students, Families, and Staff:

Over the past couple months, I have been out meeting with our Northshore community. These Listen and Learn sessions have been valuable in helping me identify what is working, concerns or challenges, and other suggestions to improve our district support and services. The next general session is on November 30th at Woodinville High School. In January, I will be presenting what I heard and what the district plans to do at Northshore’s State of Our Schools event.

In the meantime, if there are improvements staff can make immediately - we are taking action. Improved communication of available resources has been a topic of discussion. Beginning this week, the Communication Department is adjusting the timing, distribution, and structure of the content in the Connections Newsletter. Connections will come out every 2nd and 4th Monday of the month and will be redesigned to include the most  important information families and students need to navigate Northshore School District. High school students have also been added to the newsletter distribution list.

On the opposite Mondays, I will continue to send and publish a staff message, ensuring staff are receiving the information they need, when they need it. I am hopeful that these adjustments improve predictability and alignment of district communication supports.

Last week, I shared my thoughts about the tragic shooting in a Seattle Public Schools high school resulting in the death of a student. I recognize how these types of events affect our students, families, and staff. I share your grief and frustration. Schools must be a safe place. It is important we all stay vigilant. If you didn’t receive my message about the district’s approach to school safety and continued efforts, please review the post on the Superintendent blog webpage

Today and every day I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the Northshore School District and help fulfill the promise of a great education for each and every student.
