Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Newhall went to high school in Olympia, WA. She played the flute in band, sang in the choir, and accompained on piano. She attended Western Washington University to earn her Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance. She was accepted into the Conservatory Darius Milhaud in France where she studied voice with Mme Laure Florintin. Upon returning to the US, she moved to Seattle for graduate studies at the University of Washington where she earned her teaching certification.
Ms. Newhall is a National Board Certified Music Teacher, and after directing the choirs at Canyon Park Junior High, Skyview Junior High, and co-directing the St. James Cathedral youth and High School choirs for the last 10 years, she is excited to take over the program at IHS! Her choirs have been guest performers with many professional ensembles on a yearly basis including a documentary with the Philharmonia Northwest where they performed Vesperae Pro Festo Sancti Innocentium by Michael Haydn. She has commissioned original compositions from notable composers and regularly is invited to have her choirs perform with professional ensembles. She also currently works with the Bellevue Youth Choirs as director of the Girls Concert Choir.
As a performer, Ms. Newhall has recorded with members of the Seattle Symphony for radio and film and was a soprano soloist on several video game soundtracks including Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, and Team Fortress 2. She was a cantor and member of the Womens Schola, Catherdal Choir, and Cathedral Cantorei at St. James Cathedral in Seattle for 10 years. She has performed with ensembles including Opus 7, Choral Arts Northwest, The Byrd Ensemble, Philharmonia Northwest, the Seattle Symphony, the Greys Harbor Chamber Singers, the Magi Ensemble, and the Vestr Singers to name a few. She can be seen in the Pearl Jam Music Video, The Fixer, and worked on the feature film, Laggies. She is currently working on recording for the video game, Prey for the Gods. Ms. Newhall is a founding member of the Magi Ensemble, and performs with several friend bands on the weekends.
In Ms. Newhall’s spare time, she is the owner of Pinehurst Photography. As a photographer, she enjoys the journalistic style of portraits and her photos were recently published in Living Lutheran magazine.
