Mrs. Borchert: Librarian
Home
Welcome to the Library! Our goal is to provide the
skills, experiences and confidence that will enable our students to use
libraries and information resources for life-long learning and
enjoyment.
Throughout the school year, students in grades two through six will
be participating in a variety of research projects using the Northshore
School District 's Information
Literacy Process as a guideline. The Process encourages students to
focus on strategies for creating questions and finding the best methods
for answering those questions using a variety of sources. The ultimate
goal is to create independent users of all libraries, lifelong learners
and critical thinkers.
During January our K-3 students
will be participating in the selection of the Washington Children's
Choice Picture Book Award winner. Throughout the school year our 4-6
students will be encouraged to read as many of the Young Readers Choice
and Sasquatch Reading Award nominated books as possible and vote on
their favorite book in April. Be sure to check the award lists for some
great reading suggestions!
All of our students are encouraged
to participate in the Wellington Wall of Fame reading program. Students
keep track of all the books that they read (or have read to them)
throughout the year in a reading journal. Last year we had over ninety
students complete their journal and their names were placed on the 2007
Wellington Wall of Fame plaque.
The Northshore School District
has purchased three wonderful
online databases that students can use from their home computer - SIRS
Discoverer, CutureGrams, and Nettrekker. We have sent out the directions
for getting onto these databases through the Wellington World. If you
need additional information on using these databases or if you have
questions about our program please feel free to contact us.
