The Northshore Schools Foundation awarded a $50,000 grant to the Northshore School District at their Oct. 2, 2009 first annual Fall Kick-Off event.  Funds will be used to acquire new teaching materials, including textbooks, at both the elementary and secondary levels.

The Foundation raised the money from private contributions at the annual Light a Fire for Learning Luncheon in May and the annual Phonathon last fall. This year's Phonathon, set for Nov. 3-5, will once again generate funds to purchase textbooks and classroom materials. The goal this year is to raise $500,000 to support the funding priorities of the Foundation - new instructional materials, including new textbooks, innovative teacher/classroom grants and assistance in costs associated with National Board Certification that teachers pay out of pocket.

The Northshore Schools Foundation is a non-profit, volunteer organization whose goal is to enhance educational opportunities for all Northshore students. More information about the Foundation is available on our Web site or by calling 425-408-7680.

Northshore Schools Foundation Luncheon Raises $60,000

The Northshore Schools Foundation held its 6th Annual Light a Fire for Learning Luncheon on May 5th. An audience of more than 200 Foundation supporters raised over $60,000 to support Foundation classroom grants, as well as new instructional materials in advanced learning core curriculum areas at the secondary level and leveled readers and new textbooks at the elementary level.

The luncheon entertainment consisted of the Inglemoor High School
Orchestra and String Quartet (Instructor, Jim Rice).  Assisting in planning this year's luncheon was the Event Planning Class at Inglemoor High School, led by Instructor Geoffrey Gilmore.  Both groups of students did an outstanding job.  The Torchbearer's Award was presented posthumously to Di ck Truly, former Foundation Board member and  strong Foundation supporter, and also to Jean Fowler, former Executive Director of the Northshore Public Education Foundation (now the Northshore Schools Foundation).  In addition to awarding the Torchbearer's Award to Jean, the Foundation announced the creation of the Jean Fowler Circle for donors who contribute $1,000 or more.  This new giving bracket honors Jean's dedicated work on behalf of the students of the Northshore School District and, of course, her passion in promoting the wor k of the Foundation.  Keynote speaker at this year's luncheon was NSD Superintendent Larry Francois.  Larry spoke to the importance of the Foundation/School District partnership

The Foundation is grateful to the 22 sponsors who helped make the event possible, including Premier Sponsor, Cornerstone General Contractors, and Major Sponsors, Philips and Jeff & Sue Buske.  In addition, an anonymous donor provided matching money to sweeten the pot for luncheon donors. Fo

365 Club

The Northshore Schools Foundation launched its new 365 Club at their October 2, 2009 Fall Kick-Off event.  Every morning almost 20,000 Northshore students report to school ready to learn.  They need our support, now more than ever… 365 days a year!

The 365 Club is a way to demonstrate our support for our kids year round.  Funds raised through this club will support Foundation funding priorities - new instructional materials, including textbooks, innovative classroom grants and assistance for teachers for costs associated with National Board Certification.

You can join the Foundation's new 365 Club by giving just $1 a day.  Simply send in your $365 annual club membership made out to Northshore Schools Foundation and earmark it for the 365 Club.  Or, if you wish, send in $5 to join today and set up payments of $30 a month for the year.  We'll send you a window decal so that you can show your neighbors and friends that you are committed to education in our community and support our students 365 days a year.

Please visit the Foundation's Web site for additional information on the 365 Club.
