Summer Institute

·   August 22-25, 8:00 Keynote each day.

·   Teachers need to bring Teacher's Manual and Toolkit to Benchmark training.

·   Words Their Way books and Writing will be checked out at BHS library.

·   Encourage new teachers to take the IRR 101 class at the Institute Monday 8:30-10:00 or Wed. 1:00-2:30.

·   Each teacher will collect stickers from each class they take to account for clock hours and if they want the hours to apply to the IQ 18 hours.

Literacy Leads

·   Provide names of one primary and one intermediate teacher who will act as the literacy leads for your school.

·   Kick-off Meeting- Wednesday, September 28 from 4:00-5:30

·   Will provide planning information for the October visit from Benchmark Literacy at the meeting.

Literacy Materials

·   E-mail or call Amy, Elementary Support Specialist aottersbach@nsd.org if you have curriculum orders or questions regarding materials.

·   K-1 writing materials will be delayed until shortly after the start of the year. Materials for Institute training will be provided.

·   Spanish materials for Dual Language will be sent in September.

·   LC and CLC materials should be delivered by the end of this week.

Split/Combination Class Teacher Meeting

·   1/2 Day problem solving meeting, Thursday, September 29, 12:30-3:30

·   E-mail to be sent to teachers with sub code.

NEW Second Grade Reading Test- Training

·   Our new 2nd grade OSPI Reading Test is EasyCBM a very short individualized screening test.

·   Training is offered at the Summer Institute or through a Webinar on Sept. 7.

August Advance Follow-up

·   Zoomerang survey will arrive soon for all attendees.

·   All materials up on the Teacher Leadership site.

·   Show the overview video in August or early September to all staff.

Science for Split/Combination Classes

  • Teachers DO NOT have to teach 2 grade levels of science (per new CBA)
  • Solution this year:

o If kits not taught in lower grade last year- teach those kits

o Otherwise, choose two kits from upper grade that are best fit content and for other grade level teachers and teach those.

o Defers issue to next year giving time for work to be done this year and to include this in the adoption/CMAC process.

  • Pre-conference on Wed.- Team from Northshore and team from Issaquah to share Instructional Rounds and Star Protocol respectively.

  • Northshore planning meeting with Doug Friday, 2:30-4:30

Elementary Report Card Committee

  • Comprised of 9 teachers, 4 central office, and 5 principals
  • Will be asking for principals to serve

  • Math Flipchart Committee working to update all flipcharts.
  • Northshore Elementary Math Olympiad (NEMO) returns. Kick-off meeting Oct. 18, 4:15 in room 208. Send a rep from each school.

January 3 Tech Day

  • Need facilitators- Training on December 2

o Review facilitator list and let us know ASAP if you have other teachers we can contact. Think of teachers new to NSD, emerging leaders, etc.

  •  Overview of the day
    • Three 90-minute modules, two in morning, one in the afternoon
    • 90-minute Keynote by Doug Fisher, introduced by Larry-afternoon

Literacy Update

  •   Lean into Literacy Edition 2 out at the beginning of next week
  • Reminder that the NSD Reading Proficiency Levels Per Trimester was updated in September and is posted on the Assessment Toolbox.

    • No before or after school time
    • Same basic structure: half day primary, half day intermediate

Math Update

  • Math Flipcharts being posted as they are completed.
  • Gini Stimpson Study- Addressing the needs of advanced learners in the general education math classroom.

Online MSP Testing

  • All schools that did online testing last year will be online testing again and may add content or additional grade levels
  • Will be adding 2-3 more schools- TBD
  • Need for a STS on site during testing
