Fernwood Elementary will continue to participate in the Sister Schools program this year.
We are conducting a “supply drive” from November 20th through December 9th. This is our tenth year of involvement with this project.
We kicked off our supply drive by hosting Terry McGill of the Sister Schools program in an all school assembly on Tuesday. Through pictures and stories, our students learned of the overwhelming difficulties faced by children in Ugandan schools and orphanages.

By no means is this a mandatory activity, and we will also engage in other charitable activities that address our local community later in the school year. As your community school we want to encourage all of our families to participate in supporting the local, and global community in ways that are meaningful, to them. The Sister Schools experience shows all children they can make a difference in another person’s life. To learn more about Sister Schools and ways you can be involved, visit; www.SisterSchools.org.
After the supplies are collected, they will be picked up on December 10th. Items will be sorted and prepared for shipment to Uganda. In April, the items will be distributed to schools that we have connected with. This year I will be fortunate enough to make the trip with the Sister Schools group and participate in the distribution of the materials. I will communicate with our students while doing this work in Uganda and I look forward to working with children and educators in the schools and Orphanages we visit.
Sincerely, Mr. D
