The form on this page should be used to indicate your request for a change in the type of machine allocated to you in the deployment. This form can be used by certificated or classifed staff. You can expect a response to your request near the time your campus or staff group is scheduled for deployment.
About workstation assignments for certificated staff:
The standard workstation for all certificated staff in this deployment will be a laptop. This serves several purposes:
- Laptops provide teachers with the ability to bring their instructional resources and important data with them to meetings, curriculum team work, and professional development opportunities. The demands on teachers to have access to their materials is increasing as we move to a more digital work environment and strive for a greener way of doing business.
- Laptops allow teachers that share teaching spaces to be more flexible. Moving a laptop from room to room or around the space in which they teach eliminates the need to have teachers share a computer or move files back and forth from the file server or flash drive to do their teaching.
- Research tells us that with more timely and consistent access to technology tools and digital resources, technology integration practices become more sophisticated and tech proficiciency among staff improves. This is extremely important as we adopt more and more curriculum that requires students to engage in 21st century learning practices with digital tools and resources.
Some staff have expressed concern about the screen size of the laptop. Staff have the option of purchasing accessories for their laptop to accommodate personal preferences in display, keyboarding, and mouse activity. Staff who have a desire for an external keyboard or mouse may want to consider harvesting keyboards and mice from surplussed computers.
