Kenmore Junior High 2009-10 Profile
|
As the principal of Kenmore Junior High, I'd like to welcome you to our "School Profile" page. This profile will give you an overview of our academic program, as well as our mission, vision and values, how we use our resources, our annual school improvement plan, student activities, and other information you may find useful.
Kenmore Junior High is a comprehensive junior high where students are consistently involved in challenging learning opportunities in a caring, nurturing environment. We enjoy a tradition of excellence in our academic and extracurricular programs which encourage life-long learning and prepare our students for success in the future. Our experienced staff is thoroughly committed to our students' academic successes as well as their development as responsible citizens.
Kenmore Junior High has a traditional school day structure, with six fifty-five minute periods per day. While our structure could be considered traditional, our talented and caring staff continues to align our curriculum and instruction with "best-practice" research-based methodologies. We are very proud and excited about the learning opportunities our students receive; and they consistently perform at a high level.
Feel free to contact us if you have any questions regarding our school - check our school website for specific contact information. We look forward to serving our students and our community.
Sincerely,
Tim Gordon
Principal

Mission, Vision, Values, Goals |

 |
 |
Our mission, vision, and value statement was developed by our staff during the 2006-2007 school year. It reflects our beliefs about what is essential about what we do at KJH.
Mission
It is the mission of our school to help all students realize their full potential and become responsible, productive citizens and life-long learners who appreciate our diverse society and are able to use technology effectively to prepare for the challenges of the future.
Vision
In order for our students to become productive, contributing citizens of a changing world, Kenmore Junior High students, staff, and community members work together in a safe, collaborative atmosphere to offer all students an array of diverse and challenging educational programs designed to foster academic, personal, and vocational growth. We will establish high standards of learning that we expect all students to achieve.

If we are successful in fulfilling our mission, vision, and hold ourselves accountable to our values, we would expect our students to demonstrate these outcomes:
Kenmore Junior High will strive to develop learners who are:

As many of you know, Kenmore Junior High is one of the oldest schools in the district, having opened in 1961. We have had one major modernization phase completed, which replaced our gym, main office, and library. We are currently undergoing "Phase Two" of the modernization process, which will include the construction of a new wing which will house our science, art, and several other classrooms. This phase will also include the reconfiguration of our parking lot and student drop-off areas. Phase Three, pending approval of a future bond, will result in the modernization of the rest of campus. We are very excited about these changes, and look forward to our improved school facilities.

At Kenmore Junior High we are justifiably proud of our academic program and tradition. As a "feeder" school for Inglemoor High School, we take a great deal of pride in preparing our students for their program and life after high school. We offer "Honors" classes in math and humanities (English and social studies) in all three grades. We also take a great deal of pride in providing a "spectrum of services" for our students on Individualized Education Plans. We have had great success in preparing these students for success in high school and the world of work.
The Kenmore Junior High music program is among the finest in the state. Our award-winning bands, choirs, and orchestras regularly participate in festivals and performances, and our students consistently perform at high levels. Over half of our students participate in these programs, and they truly contribute to the overall success of our school.
We offer many other activities and opportunities for our students to participate outside of the classroom. A partial list of some of those activities includes ASB, History Day, Science Club, Math Club, Geography Bee, Art Club, Guitar Club, Honor Society, and Police Academy.
Our sports programs are another important aspect of student life at KJH. We have four sports seasons, and offer football, volleyball, soccer, basketball, softball, tennis, baseball, dance team, cross country, track, and wrestling as part of our program. KJH teams regularly perform at very high levels, and we have many championship banners hanging on our gym wall. More importantly, these provide our students with an opportunity to participate in meaningful activities that enhance their school experience and will give them social, mental, and physical skills that will stay with them for a long time.
Additionally, we have many school-wide activities that provide enrichment and recognition for our students. Excellence assemblies, food drives, spirit weeks, and WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) are among the activities that allow our students to feel a sense of accomplishment and community. They are an important part of the KJH culture.

|
Our student support staff is second to none. We have outstanding counselors that are highly skilled in working with students on a variety of issues. Our Assistant Principal and Dean of Students do a great job of developing relationships with our students and creating opportunities for our students to grow socially and emotionally. Our office staff, including our school nurse, are professional and caring, and provide a high level of service to our students and community.
|
|
The KJH PTSA provides important support to our school, and we invite all parents to get involved in this organization. They assist us with activities as well as serving as a resource for grants and programs that could not be provided without their support. We encourage you to become involved with this group, or in any other way you can. The quality of the interactions between our students, staff, and parents will determine our success as a school.
