SJH AGREEMENT FOR PERSONAL TECHNOLOGY USE

Use of personal technology such as an iPod or a cell phone is a PRIVILEGE, not a necessity. We will not let technology interfere with or detract from the purpose of the school community, which is education.  Therefore, students may bring personal technology devices to school only after they have this signed, dated agreement on file. This agreement identifies acceptable devices, and outlines acceptable use and storage of devices, and handling of device abuse, theft and loss.

Allowable devices:
Cell phones MP3 players Compact Disc players  iPods iPads

DIGITAL, STILL AND VIDEO CAMERAS are NOT allowed without teacher approval because they could breach confidentiality of other students.

Use of devices:
Cell phones
Cell phones are to be turned off and stored in lockers during classes.  (In the past, cell phones have been used for academic cheating through text messaging and photographing classroom materials which is why they are not allowed in classrooms) Cell phones may only be used before or after school outside of the school building and during lunch within the yellow boundary lines. Parents may contact students during the school day by calling the Counseling office at 408-6819. Students may use a school phone when necessary so communications are never an issue during the school day.

Personal Music Devices
MP3, iPods and Compact Disc players may be used before school, at lunch in the breezeway, and after school. They may also be used in the classroom with teacher permission.  Music devices players are to be kept secure and OUT OF SIGHT.  Classroom use will not include use in hallways or outside during class at any time.

Abuse of personal technology privilege
An infraction will be issued if cell phones or personal music devices are used, heard, or sighted outside of the use rules above. The device will be confiscated and a parent or guardian will need to come to school to retrieve it.
Upon receiving the 2nd infraction for device misuse, a parent or guardian will need to come to school to retrieve it and meet with an administrator.
Any further technology violations the student will lose the privilege of bringing the technology to school for the remainder of the school year and will result in disciplinary action.

Theft and loss of personal technology devices
With this agreement, parents and students assume the risk of loss or theft of their personal technology devices.
The school provides secure lockers in the academic building and locker rooms.  Students will not share lockers with other students and will be expected to never share their combination with other students.  STUDENTS MUST LOCK THEIR LOCKER. STUDENTS MUST NOT “RIG” THEIR LOCKERS FOR EASE OF ACCESS. If theft occurs from an unsecured locker, the school will not investigate.

Signatures of student and parent/guardian below are an agreement to abide by the preceding personal technology rules.
