Online Health Course (grades 9-12) Requires one mandatory in class meeting with teacher; all other coursework completed online. Mandatory meeting will be June 26, 10:00-11:00 a.m., in the 900 wing at Inglemoor High School. Specific room TBD.
Accelerated Math Courses (grades 7-9) See Secondary Summer School Calendar for scheduled days and make-up days. Classes meet 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
- No class on Thursday and Friday, July 4-5. Enjoy the long weekend. See individual course descriptions for make-up days, if required.
- Secondary Summer Academy (SSA) has been restructured to better meet the needs of our students.
- All classes will be held at Inglemoor High School.
- SSA will offer Credit Retrieval courses in math, social studies, English and Collection of Evidence (COE) in Reading/Writing; an Online Health class and Accelerated Math classes in Algebra 1, Geometry and 8th grade math. See course descriptions for prerequisites if applicable.
- Courses are a hybrid model of direct teaching and online student work.
- Students should register in the grade they completed as of June 2013.

Online
Register and pay tuition through the Online Registration program via secured link from April 30 to June 20. Secure online registrations can be made using a VISA or MasterCard credit card or debit card. Follow the directions and select the course(s). Confirmation will be sent via email. Register at SAS, June 21, 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and June 24, 12:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. Forms and class schedules will be available. Checks, cash, Visa and MasterCard credit or debit cards are accepted. The Secondary Summer Academy principal will be on-site to assist with schedules.

Registration forms are available in secondary school counseling offices, at the reception desk in the Administrative Center, or online (.pdf download; Acrobat Reader required).

Complete the registration forms. Check the classes you want. Talk to your counselor about what class(es) to take.

Parent/guardian and student read and sign "Policies and Regulations" on the back of the registration form.

Classes may be altered or canceled due to a lack of enrollment.

All registrations are on a first-come, first-served basis.

All fees are forfeited if a student is withdrawn because of inappropriate behavior or failure to meet attendance requirements.

Each semester class requires at least 90 hours to present the full curriculum.

Each credit retreival class requires 45 hours and is pass/fail.

High school students who successfully fulfill the requirements can earn .5 credit.

A refund of 60% is approved before or on the first day of school, 50% on day two, and 40% on day three.

This course is for students who did not sucessfully complete English 9 or 10. Emphasis is on strengthening students' reading, writing, communication and critical thinking skills presented in English 9 through 12. The standards-based curriculum includes activities that develop vocabulary, comprehension and fluency skills using fiction and nonfiction texts. Students learn to write in response to on-demand prompts and communicate effectively in a variety of forms for different audiences. Online and in class inquiry-based science class. Students are introduced to the fundamentals of physics and chemistry through a series of experiments and activities. This course is for students who did not successfully complete Washington State History. This course fulfills the required Washington State history and government requirement. Students study the geography, history and economics of Washington State and learn how Washington is influenced by and linked to Pacific Rim countries. CATEGORY: COLLECTION OF EVIDENCE COE100 - COE Reading/Writing (Collection of Evidence) .5 Credit Cost Waived Class: Monday, Wednesday Session 1: 8:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Computer Lab: TBA The goal of this class is to help students prepare material for a Collection of Evidence that will be submitted to the State in order to fulfill the Reading or Writing component of the High School HSPE.

One mandatory in class meeting with teacher; all other coursework is completed online.
Mandatory meeting will be June 26, 10:00-11:00 a.m., in the 900 wing at Inglemoor High School. Specific room TBD.
Students will learn about nutrition, exercise, substance abuse prevention, managing emotions and stress, handling crisis, heart disease and cancer, human sexuality, HIV/AIDS, and CPR techniques. They will research health issues and discuss national and world concerns.

CATEGORY: ACCELERATED MATH #MAL145 - Accelerated Algebra 1, grades 7-8 1.0 Credit Class: Monday-Thursday, some Fridays* 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. *No class on July 4 and 5. See Secondary Summer Academy Calendar for specific class dates Equipment: A scientific calculator is required. The Texas Instrument TI-83 or TI-84 family of graphing calculators is strongly recommended. This is the first course in the high school math sequence. This course expands on the student's understanding of arithmetic operations and properties to include the symbolic language of algebra. Students will formalize their understanding of functions with a focus on linear functions and quadratic functions. Students will also explore absolute value functions, piecewise-defined functions, and exponential functions. Other topics that will be studied are writing equations to model linear equations, solving systems of linear equations and inequalities, solving quadratic equations with real roots, exponent laws and properties, arithmetic and geometric sequences, and data analysis. This course moves at a fast pace covering a year-long course compressed into 5 weeks. Students cannot miss more than two days of class to earn credit. After completing the course, students will be required to take the state end-of-course algebra make-up assessment. The first opportunity to take the will be in January, 2013. #MGE145 - Accelerated Geometry, grades 7-9 1.0 Credit Class: Monday-Thursday, some Fridays* 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. *No class on July 4 and 5. See Secondary Summer Academy Calendar for specific class dates Equipment: The Texas Instrument TI-83 or TI-84 family of graphing calculators is required. This is the second course in the high school math sequence, following Algebra 1. Students will formalize their reasoning skills to write proofs built on definitions, axioms, and theorems. Students will study parallel and perpendicular lines, triangle properties, quadrilateral properties, and properties of other polygons and circles. Other topics that will be studied are similar and congruent figures,right triangle trigonometry, coordinate geometry, geometric transformations, area, surface area and volume of three-dimensional figures. This accelerated course moves at a fast pace covering a year-long course compressed into five weeks. Students cannot miss more than two days of class to earn credit. After completing the course, students will be required to take the state end-of-course geometry make-up assessment. The first opportunity to take the assessment will be in January, 2013.
#MAT845 - Accelerated 8th Grade Math Prerequisite: Must complete 7th grade math to enroll in this class NO Credit Class: Monday-Thursday, some Fridays* 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. *No class on July 4 and 5. See Secondary Summer Academy Calendar for specific class dates Equipment: A scientific calculator is required. The Texas Instrument TI-83 or TI-84 family of graphing calculators is strongly recommended.
Students need to be highly self-motivated, as this course covers a full-year curriculum in a compressed summer session. This course prepares students for Algebra. The course builds upon the work done with solving two-step linear equations to solve a variety of linear equations and inequalities. Students will extend their experience displaying and interpreting data to include comparing data sets, drawing conclusions and analyzing statistical studies. Other topics that will be covered are linear functions, angle and line relationships in geometry, transformations, Pythagorean theorem, probability for independent and dependent events, an introduction to the laws of exponents, and working with scientific notation.
