Mission Statement

Project HOPE'S mission is to provide its diverse students the best possible education program in the least restrictive environment by focusing on the basic academic disciplines in an atmosphere that affirms both the student and his/her individual learning style. Students will be challenged in both academic and life/social skills and will be equipped with skills to meet those challenges and will leave Project HOPE able to function in and give back to their community.

Philosophy

Not all students find success in the traditional, or building-based alternative school setting. In order to prepare students to live successfully within their community, Project HOPE fosters culturally acceptable values, moral character and development and teaches independent living and social skills.

We treat our students as 'whole individuals' and recognize their need to reconnect with people in their environment who can help them, eliminate their confusion and misunderstandings about their abilities, and provide them a safe, peaceful, and hopeful environment for learning.

A learning environment is created that is immediately relevant to the learner, active and success oriented. Teaching is not reserved for the academic curriculum. Every interaction between staff and student is viewed as an opportunity to teach and learn. Programming is based on individual learning styles and needs.

Goals

Measurable goals and objectives include:

  • Improved student behavior and attitude for better relationships with school, community, vocational, and family settings (making connections)
  • Increase the basic academic skills necessary for school and vocational success
  • Develop the emotional quotient (E.Q.) including empathy, intimacy, and vulnerability to enable them to have successful, positive relationships
  • Implement curriculum with real-world and technology applications
  • Provide school to work experience and connection to supportive transition agencies
  • Provide student and family wrap-around services
  • Link students to healthy activities

All I Ever Really Needed to Know
I Learned at My Son's High School Graduation

Not everything is taught in kindergarten.
A strong finish is not easy.
Hanging in there really is worth it.
Second chances are twice as meaningful.
Blow horns are really loud in small areas.
Bigger is not better.
More expensive is not more satisfyingly.
Potential is not measured by outward appearance.
Teachers really do love students.
Students love teachers more than they let on.
Faith overcomes fear.
Plan B can be better.
Hope is more than a project,
It's envisioning every student in a cap and gown.

Hope believes in tomorrow today.
