Welcome to Moorlands
Elementary
|
Our school is part of the Northshore
School District. Moorlands is located in Kenmore which is a
few miles northeast of Seattle at the north end of Lake
Washington. Moorlands was built in 1963 and underwent a full
modernization in 1993-94. In April of 2001 an additional
building containing six classrooms and four offices was
completed for our school. Over 50 staff members presently
serve our 600 students.
Washington State began its school
improvement efforts in earnest five years ago. At Moorlands
we have been working hard to improve both teaching quality
and student learning, and we are making significant progress
in helping every child to meet the new State
standards.
|
We have changed in several ways:
-
Our school is united behind common
expectations. Washington's standards for student learning have
made clear exactly what students should be learning.
-
Our instructional staff is seeking out best
practices and effective strategies. We are devoting more classroom
time to helping students become strong readers, effective writers,
and successful problem solvers. We are using programs and
approaches with a track record of success to ensure that our
students can communicate what they are learning and
thinking.
-
Moorlands is developing strong partnerships
with parents so that children's learning continues throughout the
day, not just when they are at school.
These efforts, coupled with excellent community
support, are creating a robust learning environment which challenges
all students.
In addition to helping our young people meet state
and district academic standards, the Moorlands' staff is also
committed to the development of good character. We are leading by
example in order to make a difference in our students' lives and to
teach them to be good citizens who are responsible and
caring.
School Mission
Our mission is to help students acquire the social
and academic skills necessary to become life-long learners and
contributing members of our world.
In support of this mission, we hold these
beliefs:
-
All students can achieve success.
-
Learning experiences must be
relevant.
-
A supportive environment of mutual respect and
trust is essential.
-
Unique contributions and attributes of
individuals must be recognized and encouraged.
-
We are all learning and growing
together.
-
Students reach their full potential when the
family and school work as partners.
