Grade Reconfiguration Planning Task Forces Opportunities Available

The district is seeking applicants for the following Grade Reconfiguration Task Forces: K-5 Elementary, 6-8 Middle School and 9-12 High School. These task forces will begin the visioning and planning process for grade reconfiguration. Currently there are five openings for parents/community members on each 15-member task force. These voluntary positions are appointed by the superintendent and will last for approximately four years. Applications are due by Friday, May 24, 2013. School Board Unanimously Votes to Build New High School in North End and Reconfigure Grade Levels

The Northshore School District Board of Directors voted to pursue funding through a 2014 bond measure for the construction of a high school in the north end of the district to provide a longer-term solution to enrollment growth and to reconfigure grade levels to k-5 elementary, 6-8 middle school and 9-12 high school model to provide greater educational opportunities for students.

Northshore School District Honors Two Local Churches at WASA Community Recognition Awards Luncheon

Northshore School District recognized Eastside Foursquare and Northshore Baptist churches at the Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA) Metro Community Recognition Awards Luncheon on May 17. The churches were honored at the luncheon for their strong partnerships with the school district.

For over five years, Eastside Foursquare and Northshore Baptist churches have helped students overcome barriers and be successful in school. (read more)

Bothell High School Teacher Wins $10,000 Award for Science Teaching Excellence


Bothell High School science teacher Amanda Rainwater won the 2013 Amgen Award for Science Teaching Excellence. A representative from Amgen surprised Rainwater with a $10,000 check and trophy at a school assembly on May 16. She received $5,000 for the school to advance science education and $5,000 for personal use. (read more)

Northshore Students Win State History Day Awards
Nine Student Projects To Compete at National Competition

Thirty Northshore students won awards for their history projects at the Washington State History Day Competition May 4, in Bellevue, Wash., and nine Northshore projectsstudents earning a first or
second placeare eligible to compete at the Kenneth E. Behring National History Day Contest at the University of Maryland in College Park, Md., June 9-13. (read more)

Inglemoor Finishes Second and Woodinville Finishes Fourth in Nation

Inglemoor and Woodinville high school Distributive Educational Clubs of America (DECA) teams once again produced impressive results finishing second and fourth respectively at the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) held April 24-27 in Anaheim, Calif. (read more)

Canyon Park Junior High School Science Olympiad Team Only Team to Represent State at National Competition

The Canyon Park Junior High School Science Olympiad team will be jetting off May 14 to the Science Olympiad National Tournament, May 17-18, at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, to represent the state. The 14-member team won the B (grades 7-9) division at the Washington State Science Olympiad, competing against 19 other schools in 25 categories covering biology, chemistry, earth science, astronomy, physics and technology. Northshore Employee Receives State Business Officials Award

Lydia Sellie, Northshore School District director of finance, was presented with the Washington Association of School Business Officials (WASBO) "Unsung Hero" award at its annual conference, May 1-3, in Vancouver, Wash.

The award annually recognizes a WASBO member who has volunteered their time and energy to help in WASBO's mission of promoting best practices of school business management, providing professional growth and effectively using educational resources. (read more)


Transportation Change for EAP Beginning in 2013-14 School Year

Beginning in the 2013-14 school year, Northshore School District will offer transportation for Elementary Advanced Program (EAP) students through a hub system. (read more)

Tracy Westberg Named Star 101.5 Teacher of the Week

STAR 101.5 surprised Tracy Westberg’s sixth-grade class at Bear Creek Elementary School last week to tell the teacher that she was the STAR 101.5 Teacher of the Week. Westberg was nominated by fifth-grader Brody Milbrodt and his mom Tanya Milbrodt. (read more)

Michael Antley Wins Prestigious Teaching Award

Woodinville High School German teacher Michael Antley has been named a 2013 winner of the prestigious Duden Award for his excellence in teaching German. The Duden Award is given annually to a teacher in each state by the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG).




Inglemoor High School’s Student Musicians Capture Highest Honors at Heritage International Music Festival

Inglemoor High School’s Orchestra, Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble took the nation’s capital by storm during their recent trip to Washington D.C. Under the direction of Inglemoor music directors Jim Rice and Ted Christensen, all three music groups really turned heads at the Heritage International Music Festival on April 13.  Each group won the Gold Award—scores over 90 from all judges, the Adjudicators Award—scores over 93 from all judges and the Outstanding Band Award—highest score overall regardless of classification.

In addition, the Inglemoor instrumental music program won the Outstanding Instrumental Program Award and Sasha Stavilla earned a Maestro Award as an outstanding soloist with the Jazz Band.

Northshore High Schools Rank Among Nation's Top Schools in Two News Magazines

All three Northshore high schools were ranked among Newsweek's 2013 top 2,000 schools that best prepare students for college. Inglemoor High School was ranked 584, Bothell High School 1,115 and Wodinville High School 1,128. (read more)


Woodinville's Chelsea Bateman Wins Eastside Republican Club's Essay Contest

Woodinville senior Chelsea Bateman won best essay in the Eastside Republican Club’s annual essay contest and was presented with a $1,000 scholarship. This year’s essay topic was “What is the best way to stop gun violence without infringing on the rights protected by the Second Amendment?” Click here to view essay.


Northshore FBLA Students to Attend National Leadership Conference

Eleven Northshore high school Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) students will start summer vacation in Anaheim, Calif., competing at the FBLA National Leadership Conference, June 27-30. Inglemoor High School students Gary Wang, Jasmine Hawkins and Kevin Jin and Woodinville students Kassidy Bruhn, Joshua Granaada, Michael Aldridge, Heather Brevard, Phillip Dougherty, Robert Luo, Nicholas Taylor and Jacob Yee will be competing for honors and scholarship money. Inglemoor student Sunny Hong's artwork titled "Embracing You" was chosen as runner up in the 2013 Congressional Art Competition for Washington's 1st Congressional District.  Hong's artwork will be displayed in Congresswoman Susan DelBene's congressional office.

Sorenson Early Childhood Center Seeking Peer Models for 2013-14 School Year, May 31 Registration Deadline

Sorenson Early Childhood Center is currently accepting applications for its Peer Model Program for the 2013-14 school year. The registration deadline is May 31. The opportunity for a child to be a peer model in one of the Sorenson Developmental Special Education Preschool classes is a great way for them to learn about individual differences and build self-esteem. Washington State Receives One-Year Conditional Waiver for Some No Child Left Behind Requirements

Washington state received a one-year conditional waiver from some of the requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act, (the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act), which instituted Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). As part of the waiver, the state has replaced AYP with a new accountability system: Annual Measureable Objectives (AMO).
